Cycling History

About

I’m Aaron Cripps and I’ve been a fan of cycling ever since a friend encouraged me to watch Le Tour de France many years ago. Within a few days I’d bought a second hand Raleigh and have been cycling ever since. Beginning to ride a bike coincided with my decision to go to university to read for a history degree and these pages give me an opportunity to indulge both interests.

The history of cycling is full of passion, intrigue, drama, and tragedy, of technical innovation and of human interest. There are many great stories, some well known, others less so, some perhaps forgotten. It is my hope to bring some of these stories to life in these pages.

Robert, coincidentally I’ve been waiting until this blog was established to contact you to ask if you’d be interested in contributing? My aim is to be eclectic in the subjects covered: basically if a story has a bicycle in it anywhere it’s fair game for inclusion.

Sure. I’d love to contribute, once in a while. With the anticipation that Cadel Evans might retire in the new year here, I wouldn’t mind doing a tribute to him. Plus I have plenty of old school ideas on Coppi, Lemond etc. There’s a wonderful old bicycle movie from the 80’s l’d like to write about for your blog. Let me know what you think ?

Any and all sound great. Coppi and Lemond are always great subjects and I’d be interested in your views on Cadel, and the movie idea sounds intriguing. No rush as I have several blogs in the pipeline and can post any contribution you’d like to make as and when you’re able to do so. I’ve added an email address to the page above so please use that to contact me. All the best, Aaron

This is really nice work. I’m an archivist, history teacher, and cyclist out in California. Love the site. Keep it up!
